LinuxPlanet: Debian: A Brief Retrospective

Weird. 10 years - I still remember my first experiments with a (heavily broken) 0.9something installation from Infomagic CD sets. Later I set up a Debian 1.1 machine. That installation is still around at home, upgraded through all stages to a current Debian 3.0. I never had to reinstall it, I just once moved the installation over to a new hardware (but didn't reinstall either). Another machine at work started life as a Debian 1.2 machine and upgraded through all versions in between and was used as the seed for several other machines at work. None had to be reinstalled either. This is quite cool, if I think about how often I reinstalled other machines not running Debian in that timeframe ...

Debian rocks.

Garth patch in CVS

Today I will work in Garth' patch into CVS, so that new stuff in WikiTool, MeshTool and in the categories are available. Things might break with that version of CVS, but it's another step towards a new release.

Discreet Blog 14.8.2003

Cool - someone patched both Python Desktop Server and Python Community Server to support entry of japanese characters. And he (or she?) installed a patched PyCS for japanese users. I can't tell much more, as I can't read anything except my name and some snippets Winky

Oh, and I will get patches for both as soon as it fully works. This might help not only japanese users, but anybody with the need of unicode.

patched medusa for debian

I just upgraded the debian package for medusa to include the %-parsing patch. If you use the debian installation method for the Python Desktop Server, just do:

apt-get update
apt-get install python2.2-medusa

and you will have a patched medusa server. The repository now includes the source for the metakit packages and the medusa packages, so if you are interested in those, just go to http://simon.bofh.ms/~gb/debian/ and fetch the medusa or metakit files.

Installation for Metakit under Windows

Garth Kidd has built an installation package for Metakit under Windows. This should ease the installation woes under Windows a lot - before you had to copy files yourself, now you can just pull in the installer. It's for Python 2.2.
